Hide children’s faces in a video before you share it
Drop the video and every face in it is found and blurred on your own device, children and adults alike. You choose who may be seen, and the footage never passes through a server on the way.

How it works
Drop your video
The school play, the match, the birthday party: MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV, straight from your phone. Nothing is uploaded.
Every face is hidden
The search starts as the video opens. On-device AI finds each face, of any age, and follows it as children run; all start blurred.
Reveal who may be seen
Tap the faces that may stay visible, like the teacher on stage or your own child. Check the preview and export.
What you get
- Everyone hidden first
- The detector doesn’t guess ages. It hides every face it finds, so no child is left visible by mistake.
- Keeps up with fast movers
- Children run, spin and duck behind each other. Each face is followed from frame to frame so the blur stays on it.
- Small faces on stage or pitch
- Switch the scan to “Thorough” and it also looks for small faces far from the camera, like a class at the back of a hall.
- Names, logos and numbers
- Choose “Add area” to cover a name tag, a school logo or a printed name on a shirt. It follows the movement too.
- No server ever sees them
- Footage of children is read, blurred and saved on your device. There is no upload, so there is no copy elsewhere.
- The place stays private
- The exported file carries no GPS position, so the video doesn’t point to the school, the club or your home.
Who blurs children’s faces, and when

Teachers and schools
Show what the class made on an open day or the school website, with pupils whose families haven’t agreed kept hidden.
Sports clubs and coaches

Camps, workshops and youth groups
Share the day with parents and supporters, revealing only the faces you have permission to show.
Why children’s faces need extra care, and what Shycut does
Children can’t give meaningful consent to being online, and a video posted today can still be found when they are teenagers or adults. A face, a school uniform and a recognisable place are often enough to work out where a child spends their days. That is why many schools and clubs ask families for permission before footage is shared, and why more parents ask to have their children hidden in other people’s posts.
It helps to be clear about what the software does. Shycut’s detector finds faces, not ages: it can’t tell a child from an adult, and it doesn’t recognise who anyone is. It simply hides every face it finds. For children that is the safer default. You start from a video where everyone is blurred, then tap the faces that may be seen: the teacher giving the talk, the coach, or your own child if you are happy to share them.
Where the footage goes matters even more with children. Many online blur tools ask you to upload the video first, which places unedited images of children on a server you don’t control. In Shycut, the face model downloads to your browser once (about 4 MB) and your device does the rest: reading the frames, finding and following faces, writing the new file. The exported MP4 also leaves out the GPS position and the phone’s details, so it doesn’t point to a school or a home.
Children are a hard subject for any detector. They move fast, turn away, hide behind each other and look small at the back of a stage or across a pitch. Switch the scan to “Thorough” for those videos; it takes longer and finds more small faces. Then watch the preview from start to end, using the found list and “Jump to this moment” to check each face. Anything still visible, or a name tag or school logo, can be covered with “Add area”, which follows it as it moves. Prefer a mosaic? Pixelate the faces instead. And before you post, remove the location from the video: a phone clip filmed at school or at home carries the GPS spot where it was recorded.
Tips before you share
- Watch the whole preview before sharing: a face turned away for a second is the kind a detector can miss.
- Use a “Thorough” scan for stage performances and sports, where faces are small and far away.
- Look beyond faces: names on shirts, school logos and name tags identify a child too. Cover them with “Add area”.
- Raise the margin so hair and ears stay covered as children turn their heads, and use “Box” where no trace may remain.
- Reveal a child’s face only when their parent or guardian has agreed, and follow your school’s or club’s own rules on filming.
Private by construction
- Runs on your device
- Your browser decodes, analyses and encodes the video. There is no server to send it to.
- Nothing is uploaded
- The counter in the header measures every byte this page sends. It stays at zero.
- Location data wiped
- Phones hide GPS positions inside videos. The exported file never carries them.
Questions
Does Shycut recognise children automatically?
No. It finds faces, of any age, but it has no age detection and no face recognition, so it can’t tell a child from an adult. Instead, every face it finds is hidden, and you reveal the ones that may be seen.
Can I keep my own child visible and blur the others?
Yes. Tap your child in the list of found faces; “Jump to this moment” helps you find the right one. If your child leaves the frame and comes back, check that each appearance is revealed.
Is the video uploaded anywhere?
No. Detection, tracking and blurring run in your browser on your own device. Only the face model is downloaded, once; the video of the children never leaves your phone or computer.
What if a child’s face is not found?
Small, turned or half-hidden faces are the hardest. Try a “Thorough” scan, and for anything still missed choose “Add area” and draw around it; it is followed as the child moves.
Is blurring faces enough to share a school video?
It removes the most recognisable part, but follow your school’s or club’s own rules on filming. Check the background for names, logos and uniforms too, and cover them with “Add area” if needed.
Can I do this on my phone?
Yes, in a current Safari or Chrome on iPhone or Android. Face detection runs on the phone’s processor, so the result is the same everywhere; a long recording, like a whole school show, is quicker on a computer.
