Privacy policy

Shycut is built so that we never see your videos. This page explains, in plain words, what happens to your data when you use it.
Your videos stay on your device
Shycut runs in your browser. Opening, analysing, editing and saving a video all happen on your own computer or phone. Videos, audio, captions and recordings are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
The counter in the app’s header measures every byte the page sends, so you can check this yourself. Visit statistics (below) are listed there on their own line; they never contain files.
No accounts or ads
There is no sign-up and no account, and Shycut shows no ads. Apart from Google Analytics (below), the site’s security policy only allows its own code to run.
Visit statistics, only if you agree
To see which pages people find useful, Shycut uses Google Analytics, but only after you tap “Got it” on the notice at the bottom of the page. Until then no analytics script loads and no cookie is set; if you never tap it, nothing is measured.
Google Analytics then sets its own cookies (_ga) to tell returning visits apart, and records which pages are opened, roughly from where, on what kind of device and browser, and which site sent you. It never receives your videos, audio, captions, file names or anything you do inside a video. Google signals and ad personalisation are turned off. The cookies expire 13 months after you agree, and then we ask again.
Google processes this data as its own privacy policy describes (policies.google.com/privacy). You can change your mind here at any time; stopping also deletes the cookies.
What is stored in your browser
To work, Shycut keeps a few things in your browser’s own storage on your device: your settings (language, theme, your answer about visit statistics), recipes you save, places you mark as private, recordings in progress (so a crash doesn’t lose them) and the app and AI model files (so they don’t download again).
This data never leaves your device. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Downloads from other services
The speech model used for captions is downloaded from Hugging Face the first time you create captions. Like any download, that request shows Hugging Face your IP address; no video, audio or text is sent. Hugging Face’s own privacy policy applies to it.
Other AI models (faces, plates, camera background) are served by Shycut itself.
The latest blog articles on the home page, pictures included, are fetched by Shycut’s own server from Hiquill, the service our blog is written with, so showing them doesn’t make your browser contact anyone else. The blog at shycut.com/blog is served by Hiquill and may load its own scripts, such as analytics, while you read it. The video tool never loads them, and nothing you do in the tool is sent to the blog.
Hosting
The website is delivered by Cloudflare. As with any website, Cloudflare processes technical request data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the pages and protect them from attacks. From the same request data Cloudflare shows us only totals, such as how many visits a page had and from which countries; no script runs in your browser for this. We don’t use this data to identify or profile you.
Changes
If how Shycut handles data ever changes, this page will be updated first and the date at the top will change.
