Record your screen and camera, right in your browser

A free screen recorder for your screen, your screen and camera, or the camera alone, with your microphone and the tab’s sound. The recording is saved on your device as it happens, so even a crash keeps what you recorded.

How it works

  1. Choose what to record

Screen, screen and camera, or just the camera, with the microphone and the tab’s or system’s sound.

  2. Record

A 3-2-1 countdown, floating controls above your other windows, pause, retake with R and speaker notes that scroll as you talk.

  3. Edit and export

Pauses are already cut gently. Make the camera a bubble or a split frame, let zoom follow the action and export an MP4.

What you get

Camera as its own layer
Move the camera bubble, change its size and shape, switch to a split frame, or hide it after recording.
Automatic zoom
The video zooms in where the screen changes, like typing or an opened menu, and back out on a new page.
Retakes without stopping
Press R to throw away the current take and count into the next one. Removed takes can be brought back.
Speaker notes
Notes scroll in the floating window at your pace. Share a window or a tab, and they stay out of the video.
Crash-safe recording
The video is written to your device every second. If the browser closes, Shycut offers the recording back.
Notifications hidden
Pop-up banners in the screen corners are found and covered, and the camera background can be blurred or replaced.

What people record with it

Tutorials and walkthroughs

Show how something works, step by step. Auto zoom brings typing and menus close, so viewers can read them on a small screen.

Product demos and bug reports

Record a feature or a problem, trim the waiting, and send a short MP4 instead of a long written explanation.

Lessons and presentations

Talk over your slides with your camera in a corner and your notes scrolling beside you, out of the shot.

Video messages to a team

Record a quick update with your face and your screen, then send the file the way you like. It never sits on our servers.

Screen recording in the browser, with no cloud in between

Many online screen recorders upload what you capture so you can watch and share it from their site. That is convenient, but your screen can show email, customer data or private messages, and all of it ends up on someone else’s computer. Shycut records in your browser and writes the video to your own device every second. Nothing is streamed anywhere, and the counter in the app header shows how many bytes the page sends: it stays at zero.

Writing as you go also makes the recording safe. If the browser crashes or the tab closes, the part you already recorded is on your device, and Shycut offers it back the next time you open it. A storage guard watches free space and tells you when only a few minutes are left, so a long session doesn’t end without warning. There is no watermark and no time limit from us, only the space on your device.

Your camera is kept as its own layer instead of being baked into the screen. After recording you can choose a bubble in any corner, change its size and shape, switch to a split frame or hide the camera. Its background can be blurred, coloured or replaced with a picture, and telling you apart from the room happens on your device. For vertical video, a split frame puts you on top and the whole screen below.

Then the editing that usually takes longest is already done. The recipe cuts pauses and “um”s gently as the recording opens in the editor (every cut is listed and can be brought back), and the sound is balanced, with noise reduction applied on export. Auto zoom moves in where you type or open a menu. Notification banners in the screen corners are hidden, and faces that appear on screen, such as people in a video call, are found with one tap like in any other video, while your own camera layer is left alone.

Tips for a clean recording

Private by construction

Runs on your device
Your browser decodes, analyses and encodes the video. There is no server to send it to.
Nothing is uploaded
The counter in the header measures every byte this page sends. It stays at zero.
Location data wiped
Phones hide GPS positions inside videos. The exported file never carries them.

Questions

Is there a time limit or a watermark?

No watermark and no time limit from us. The only limit is free space on your device, and Shycut warns you when only a few minutes of space are left.

Can it record system sound?

It records the sound of a shared tab, and the whole system’s sound where the browser offers it (for example Chrome on Windows when you share the entire screen), mixed with your microphone.

Does screen recording work on a phone?

Phone browsers don’t let websites capture the screen, so screen recording needs a computer; current Chrome and Edge support every feature. On a phone you can still record your camera, and edit videos you filmed.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. It is recorded, edited and saved on your own device, and nothing is streamed to a server. The counter in the app header shows the bytes the page sends, and it stays at zero.

Can I move or hide my camera after recording?

Yes. The camera is a separate layer. Pick a bubble in any corner, change its size or shape, use a split frame, or hide it. You can change your mind until you export.

What happens if the browser crashes while I record?

The recording is written to your device every second, so what you recorded is kept. Open Shycut again and it offers the recording back, ready to edit and export.

Your video stays with you.

Open Shycut, drop the video in and export. Free, with no account, and your video never leaves your device.
