A Loom alternative that keeps the recording on your device

Loom is made for quick video messages: you record your screen and camera, and a link is ready to share the moment you stop, with comments, reactions and viewer insights for your team. Shycut has none of that. It records in your browser, keeps the video as a file on your own device, and helps you edit it before you send it the way you like.

When Loom is the better choice

If the point of the video is a link your colleague can open in seconds, Loom is built for exactly that and Shycut is not. You stop recording, paste the link into Slack or an email, and see comments, reactions and who watched. Shycut has no links, no hosting, no comments and no viewer statistics.

Loom also fits a team that keeps all its walkthroughs in one shared library, with Jira, Confluence and Slack connected. If your company already pays for Loom, it is the simpler habit to keep.

When Shycut is the better choice

If your screen shows customer data, private messages or a client’s project, Shycut records it without sending it anywhere: the video is written to your own device and stays there. Notification banners in the screen corners are hidden, and faces in a video call can be blurred before anyone sees the file.

It also has no five-minute timer, no 25-video ceiling and no download paywall. Pauses and “um”s are cut, captions are written on your device and the camera can still be moved after recording, all free. When you are done, you have an ordinary MP4 to send however you like.

Questions

Can Shycut give me a share link like Loom?

No. Shycut has no servers that store videos, so there is no link to share. You download the MP4, or hand it to your phone’s share menu, and send it through your usual chat, email or drive.

Is there a time limit on recordings?

No time limit and no watermark from us. The only limit is free space on your device, and Shycut warns you when only a few minutes of space are left.

Can I record my screen on a phone?

No. Phone browsers don’t let websites capture the screen, so screen recording needs a computer with current Chrome or Edge. On a phone you can record your camera and edit videos you filmed.

Is my recording seen by anyone at Shycut?

No. It is recorded, edited and saved on your own device, and nothing is streamed to a server. The counter in the app header shows the bytes the page sends, and it stays at zero.
