A Clipchamp alternative with no sign-in and captions on your device
Clipchamp is Microsoft’s video editor, in Edge or Chrome on a computer or as a Windows app. It previews and exports on your computer, but you sign in with a Microsoft account and its autocaptions send the audio to Azure. Shycut also works on your device, with no account at all, and its captions are made there too.

When Clipchamp is the better choice
If you already have Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, Clipchamp’s premium features are included: 4K exports, premium stock media and a brand kit. Its stock library, text to speech and templates help when you build a video from nothing rather than from your own footage.
If your school or company gives you Clipchamp, your projects live in its OneDrive or SharePoint where colleagues can find them, and that may be what your organisation expects you to use.
When Shycut is the better choice
If you don’t want to sign in to edit a video, or the speech in it shouldn’t go to a cloud service for captions, Shycut does the whole job in your browser. Faces and license plates are found and followed with a tap, which matters for footage with bystanders or children.
It also works on a phone, where Clipchamp’s editor doesn’t, and it exports at your video’s own resolution instead of stopping at 1080p, with no subscription for anything.
Questions
Clipchamp also exports on my computer. What is the difference?
Both preview and export on your device. Clipchamp needs a Microsoft account and sends the audio to Azure to make captions; Shycut has no account, and its caption model runs in your browser, so the video and its sound stay on your device.
Can I use Shycut on my phone?
Yes, in any current browser, and you can install it like an app. Long videos are fastest on a computer.
Is Shycut’s export resolution capped, like Clipchamp’s 1080p on Free?
No. It keeps your video’s original resolution unless you pick a format that changes it. No server sets a cap; only your device does, and very large files are fastest on a computer.
Does Shycut have stock media, templates or text to speech?
No. Shycut works on the videos you shot: hiding faces and plates, cutting silences, captions, resizing, joining clips and sound. Your projects are saved only on your own device.
Your video stays with you.
Open Shycut, drop the video in and export. Free, with no account, and your video never leaves your device.
