Blur faces in YouTube videos, before uploading

YouTube can blur faces, but only in YouTube Studio, after the unblurred video is already on YouTube. Shycut does it before upload, on your own device.

Why blur before YouTube sees it

YouTube’s blur works on a video that is already uploaded, so the unblurred original sits on YouTube’s servers first. And since June 2025, YouTube says, changes saved in the Studio editor can’t be undone with Revert to original.

Blurring first means the only file YouTube ever receives is the blurred one. Shycut finds faces and licence plates, follows them as they move, and keeps everything hidden unless you choose to reveal someone, such as yourself.

How to do it in Shycut

  1. Open your video

The button opens it set up for YouTube, with faces to hide.

  2. Faces are hidden

As it opens, every face is found, hidden and followed as it moves; reveal anyone who should stay visible. Plates are one tap away in the Privacy tab.

  3. Save, then upload

The saved file is the only one YouTube ever sees.

Questions

Can YouTube blur faces for me?

Yes, in YouTube Studio on a computer, after the video is uploaded. Popular videos (over 100,000 views) may only save face blur, outside the Partner Program.

Can I undo a blur in YouTube Studio?

YouTube says that since June 2025, changes saved in the Studio editor can’t be undone with Revert to original. Blurring before upload keeps your original file untouched.

Does Shycut blur licence plates too?

Yes. Faces and plates are found and followed; you can also draw an area by hand and Shycut follows it.
