Word error rate is the share of words a model gets wrong (swapped, missed or added) against a human transcript, in OpenAI’s own test on the FLEURS speech set; lower is better.

Long words, short lines
German compound words can be long, and a caption line has only the width of the frame. Shycut measures every word and wraps lines to the frame’s width, so a long word starts the next line.
For accuracy German comes fifth of the 10 languages Shycut offers. The Fast model gets 17.9% wrong; Accurate makes 43% fewer mistakes, and is the one to use for anything you publish.
