Add captions to TikTok videos
TikTok lays its own caption and buttons over the bottom of every video, and how much they cover depends on the caption’s length. Shycut places its captions above them and shows you where they sit.

Where the captions go
- Bottom captions
- End at 80% of the height, 1536 px down in a 1080 × 1920 video, leaving the lowest fifth to TikTok’s own text.
- Top captions
- Start at 12% of the height, below where apps put their tabs and search.
- While you move words
- The editor shades where TikTok’s buttons sit. That guide is Shycut’s own; TikTok publishes no figures for it that could be read.
What TikTok says
| What | Figure | Their words |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | 9:16, vertical | Vertical (recommended) : 9:16, more than or equal to 540*960px. TikTok |
| Longest | 10 min | Video duration : up to 10 minutes. TikTok |
| What covers the picture | TikTok’s own caption and buttons; how much depends on the caption’s length | The safe zone size is determined by the dimension (vertical, horizontal, or square), ad caption length, and any additional formats used. TikTok |
TikTok publishes some of these figures on its ad specifications page; its help pages for ordinary posts state none that could be read.
Captions that TikTok doesn’t cover
TikTok says the safe zone depends on the caption’s length, so there is no single line that is always clear. Shycut keeps its bottom captions out of the lowest fifth of the frame, and while you move words the editor shades where TikTok’s buttons go.
Burned-in captions travel with the video: if it is saved, shared or posted somewhere else, the words are still there. Write them once on your device and correct any line before saving.
How to do it in Shycut
Open your video
The button opens Shycut set up for TikTok: the frame, the length check, and captions written as it opens.
Check the captions
The speech is written down on your device (the model downloads once; on mobile data it waits for your tap). Fix any word in the Captions tab.
Pick a look and save
Choose one of four caption styles, check the frame, and save. Nothing is uploaded.

Questions
Can I add captions to a TikTok video on a computer?
Yes. Shycut runs in a desktop browser (and on a phone): the captions are written and burned in before you post.
Will TikTok’s caption cover my subtitles?
TikTok’s caption sits at the bottom and grows with its length. Shycut’s captions end above the lowest fifth of the frame; keep your TikTok caption short to leave them clear.
Do I need to upload the video to get captions?
No. The speech is transcribed in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
