A Short is square or vertical and runs up to three minutes. The button opens your video as a 9:16 Short with captions ready to write, and checks the length as you trim.

Where the captions go
- Bottom captions
- End at 80% of the height, 1536 px down in a 1080 × 1920 video, leaving the lowest fifth to YouTube Shorts’s own text.
- Top captions
- Start at 12% of the height, below where apps put their tabs and search.
- While you move words

What Google says
Captions that keep it a Short
YouTube files a video as a Short by its shape and length: square or vertical, up to 3 minutes. Shycut makes the vertical frame and checks the length as you trim, so the captioned video is still a Short when it lands.
Shycut’s captions end above the lowest fifth of the frame, and while you move words the editor shades where the Shorts buttons sit. That guide is Shycut’s own: YouTube publishes no safe-zone figures that could be read.
How to do it in Shycut
Open your video
The button opens Shycut set up for YouTube Shorts: the frame, the length check, and captions written as it opens.
Check the captions
The speech is written down on your device (the model downloads once; on mobile data it waits for your tap). Fix any word in the Captions tab.
Pick a look and save
Choose one of four caption styles, check the frame, and save. Nothing is uploaded.

Questions
Should I burn captions into a Short?
Burned-in captions show for everyone, whatever their settings, and stay with the video wherever it is shared. Shycut also writes an SRT file if you would rather upload one.
How long can a captioned Short be?
Up to 3 minutes, YouTube says. The editor warns you as you trim if your edit runs longer.
Is the video uploaded to make the captions?
No. Speech is transcribed in your browser; the model downloads once and the video stays on your device.
