Compress a video to under 100 MB

100 MB is room for several minutes of full HD. See exactly how much, and compress a longer video to fit without sending it anywhere first.

Shycut’s own sums for a 16:9 video at 30 frames a second with sound, at Balanced quality. “Full quality” keeps the bitrate Balanced would use anyway; past “longest that fits”, Shycut makes the picture smaller instead of letting it break up. An upright video fits the same.

Your video, by length

For a 1080p video at 30 frames a second with sound. The save window does the same sum for your own video before anything is made.

Long videos, big limits

With 100 MB, minutes of video fit at full HD; a talk, a lesson or a walkthrough can stay sharp. The tables above show how long, at each picture size.

Big originals are where uploading to an online compressor hurts most: the whole file has to travel before anything happens. Here it is read from your own disk.

How it works

  1. Open your video

Press the button and drop the file, or pick it from your files. It opens in this browser tab; nothing is uploaded, so the original can be as large as you like.

  2. 100 MB is already set

The save window opens set to an MP4 under that size. Shycut works out the bitrate from your video’s length and shows what it will do before you save.

  3. Save

If the video can’t fit at its own size, the picture steps down (1080p, 720p…) and the window says so. If nothing fits, it tells you how long a clip does, so you can trim first.

Questions

How long does it take?

About as long as your device needs to make a new video of that length; nothing waits on an upload or a queue.

Can the original be several gigabytes?

Yes. Shycut sets no size limit on what you open; the file is read from your disk, not copied into a server.

Is the sound kept at full quality?

Yes: 128 kbps, unless sound would take over a fifth of the limit, which at 100 MB only happens for very long videos.
